PCBA Quality: Acceptance Criteria & Build Records
Quality begins with an agreed definition of an acceptable assembly. Connect the released design, purchased materials, assembly instructions and test evidence so that both parties can review the same result.
Define acceptance before production
Specify applicable acceptance criteria and any customer-specific requirements. Clarify visible and hidden-joint inspection coverage and distinguish inspection from functional testing. If a qualification or certification is mandatory, verify current supporting documents and their scope.
Control revisions and substitutions
Use one released file package with a record of approved changes. Require approval before replacing specified parts or changing construction details that affect the design. Track the quantities and identities of customer-supplied materials and resolve receiving discrepancies before build release.
Decide which records are required
Agree unit or lot identification, test results, inspection records and documentation supplied with shipment. Explain whether first-article approval is required and how nonconforming items, rework and retest are handled. Record retention and traceability requirements should be included in the project scope.
